Make Twitter Work For You With Twitter Search!

Recently I attended a “Tweet Up” in our local area. It’s a great place to connect with other twitterers.
One of my conversations focused on Twitter (of course, it was a tweet-up!) and how to use it to make connections with people that have similar interests. Let’s begin with the search bar on your Twitter page. Currently, it’s located in the right sidebar. If you’re a plumber, executive coach, Mom, or whatever – type that in the search bar and check out the results. If you see someone of interest, follow them.
Next let’s take a look at Bing! On October 21, 2009, http://www.bing.com/ announced that they will integrate status updates from two of the most popular social media services – Facebook and Twitter. Interestingly enough, Bing is starting with Twitter, and Facebook will come later. You can search both by relevancy AND recent tweets. Very cool.
Additionally, there’s BackTweets, Tweet Scan, Trendistic, Tweepsearch, TweetMeme, and more.
These applications were all created because most people feel that Twitter’s search functions are inadequate. Twitter’s working on this, and it’s likely they’ll pull the best and brightest of these into something that will work on their own platform.
Until then, check these out. Search to your heart’s content.
If I’ve missed your favorite application, please share below with our readers. Or better yet, Tweet this post! =) (Click the blue “t” below.)
